Sri Lanka, June 20 -- A new high-level committee, led by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, has been appointed to develop and implement sustainable, scientific solutions for managing and controlling agricultural and plantation sector damages caused by wild animals.
The committee held its inaugural meeting on June 19, at the Presidential Secretariat.
The primary objective of this committee is to conduct a scientific study on the extent of agricultural damage by wildlife and to establish short, medium, and long-term action plans.
This includes drafting national policies and legislation, as well as coordinating the necessary human, physical, and financial resources.
