Srilanka, Nov. 16 -- The Department of Meteorology reports that the atmospheric disturbance to the east of the island intensified into a low-pressure area.

This system is expected to cause heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm in certain areas of the Northern and Eastern Provinces today (16).

Moderately heavy rainfall, potentially exceeding 50 mm, is also expected in scattered locations across the rest of the island.

The low-pressure system will cause the sky to remain generally cloudy over most parts of the country.

In the afternoon, after approximately 1:00 PM, rain or thunderstorms are likely to occur in various other parts of the island.
