Sri Lanka, Jan. 15 -- Heart surgeries among young people are increasing significantly.
Secretary of the Association of Thoracic and Thoracic Surgeons and Cardiothoracic Specialist Nalaka Dissanayake shared these observations during a press conference at the Health Promotion Bureau yesterday (14).
While elderly individuals aged 60-70 previously made up the majority of heart surgery patients, youth between the ages of 25 and 30 now increasingly require these procedures.
Heart attacks resulting from coronary artery issues remain the leading cause of adult deaths globally.
Men face a higher risk of heart attacks than women due to genetic factors, hormonal differences, and variations in lifestyle.
