Sri Lanka, March 18 -- Eighteen health trade unions are set to engage in an island-wide strike today as planned.
The unions, belonging to the Health Professionals' Federation, the Joint Federation of Paramedical Professionals, and the Joint Front of Paramedical Services, will stage a one-day token strike starting at 7 am.
Trade unions announced that while emergency, essential, and life-saving services will continue in hospitals, services such as medicine dispensing, laboratories, radiation services, public health, family health, physiotherapy, and ophthalmology will be disrupted.
However, the strike will not affect children's and maternity hospitals, cancer hospitals, or mental and kidney hospitals.
