Sri Lanka, July 14 -- Health officials are urging the public to stop discarding rambutan and mangosteen peels indiscriminately.
They warn that these peels can collect water, creating ideal breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes.
With rambutan and mangosteen widely available in markets, many people are simply tossing the peels aside.
Health officials emphasise that even a single fruit peel is enough for dengue mosquitoes to breed.
The National Dengue Control Unit recently reported finding 185 schools and 221 government institutions where mosquito larvae were breeding.
This warning comes against a backdrop where 29,000 dengue cases have been reported so far this year.
