Sri Lanka, Jan. 22 -- Harsha Manoj Gardiya Punchihewa of the National People's Power (NPP) stepped down from his position as the Chairman of the Habaraduwa Pradeshiya Sabha today. He submitted his resignation letter to the council's secretary, Ireka Dilrukshi, who confirmed the document will be forwarded to the Local Government Commissioner.

Personal reasons were cited in the letter for his decision to vacate the chair. Despite the move, he participated in the monthly council meeting held yesterday.
