Sri Lanka, May 15 -- Eleven individuals have been arrested with 1,566 bags of substandard fertiliser.
Police reported the seizure occurred in Siripura, Polonnaruwa, at a warehouse belonging to a wealthy businessman.
Investigations have revealed that this low-quality fertiliser had been distributed to areas including Dehiaththakandiya, Welikanda, Aralaganwila, Diyabeduma, Hingurakgoda and Siripura.
These bags were allegedly labelled as containing 46% nitrogen and were being prepared for sale at inflated prices to dealers and farmers.
Farmers who used this fertiliser have reported their paddy fields turning completely yellow, leading to reduced harvests, according to the police.
