Srilanka, Nov. 12 -- Minister of Agriculture K.D. Lal Kantha said the government will purchase a kilogram of big onions from farmers at Rs. 150 and a kilogram of potatoes at a price between

Rs. 220 and Rs. 240 starting next season.

He made these remarks yesterday (11) in Parliament during the budget debate.

Meanwhile, while potato and onion farmers are facing difficulties due to not receiving a fair price for their produce, it is reported that pumpkin farmers are encountering the same issue. In the Dambulla Economic Centre last morning, a kilogram of pumpkin was sold for between Rs. 20 and Rs. 40.
