Sri Lanka, Aug. 31 -- Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Ruwan Senarath, has announced plans to import 2,000 cabs for the use of government institution heads early next year.

According to the Deputy Minister, providing local government heads with transport is essential for implementing development projects at the grassroots level and reaching rural communities.

He said that a number of new projects have already been launched by reactivating previously inactive local government bodies.

Deputy Minister also added, that funds have been allocated to import machinery like backhoe loaders this year, which will assist local government institutions with their village-level projects.
