Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- The government says it will take immediate steps to address several issues at the Peliyagoda Central Fish Market Complex.

Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic, and Ocean Resources, Rathna Gamage, says the lack of official identification cards for vendors and staff has led to unauthorised individuals entering the complex, resulting in an increase in thefts and other irregularities.

According to traders, another major problem is that fish lorries are bypassing registered wholesale stalls and selling their fish directly to outside buyers.

This irregular wholesale trade is causing significant difficulties for legitimate businesses.
