Sri Lanka, July 6 -- The government has announced its intention to swiftly hold Provincial Council elections once local government bodies are established.

Speaking to Hiru News, Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government Minister Professor Chandana Aberathna stated that efforts would be made to conduct the Provincial Council elections as soon as the necessary legal requirements are met.

The delimitation issue related to these elections remains unresolved.

Professor Chandana Aberathna further emphasised that postponing elections is not government policy.
