Sri Lanka, Aug. 26 -- The government is launching a new strategic programme to boost Sri Lanka's coconut sector with the aim of increasing annual export revenue to USD 1,500 million by the year 2030.

The program, titled "Kapruk Saviya: A Steady Strength for the Nation", was announced by Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, Samantha Vidyaratna, yesterday.

Minister Samantha Vidyaratna said the initiative was developed in response to a recent decline in the coconut harvest.

He noted that in 2024, the harvest was 2,754 million nuts, falling short of the annual domestic requirement of 3,000 million nuts.
