Sri Lanka, May 25 -- National Salt Limted has announced that consignments of salt imported from India are currently arriving in Sri Lanka to alleviate the prevailing salt shortage.
Its Chairman, Gayan Wellala, informed Hiru News that these salt stocks have been arriving in the country since last Thursday (22).
The National Salt Company decided to import 20,000 metric tonnes of salt from India as a solution to the domestic shortage.
The company anticipates that the distribution of this stock to the market will end the shortage and bring down the elevated salt prices.
Meanwhile, Lanka Salt Limited also plans to import an additional 10,000 metric tonnes of salt from India.
