Sri Lanka, July 3 -- The government will commence purchasing paddy from the Yala cultivation season today (3), following the price regulation implemented during the last 2024-2025 Maha season.
According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture Namal Karunarathne, Nadu paddy will be purchased at Rs. 120 per kilogram, Samba paddy at Rs. 125 per kilogram, and Keeri Samba paddy at Rs. 132 per kilogram.
For the first time, the government has also decided to set a minimum price for wet paddy, which will be procured at Rs. 102 per kilogram by involving small and medium-scale mill owners.
However, some farmers are advocating for a minimum price of Rs. 120 for wet paddy.
