Sri Lanka, May 12 -- Several crucial rounds of discussions among major political parties are scheduled to take place this week regarding the establishment of control over the Colombo Municipal Council.

Political sources indicate that both the government and opposition parties are making significant efforts in this regard.

In the recent local government elections, the government secured 48 seats in the Colombo Municipal Council, while the opposition, led by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), won 69 seats.

Despite the National People's Power (NPP) obtaining the highest number of individual party seats, a stalemate has emerged concerning the formation of the council's administration.
