Sri Lanka, Jan. 23 -- A 48-hour symbolic strike initiated by the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) began at 8:00 AM today at hospitals across the country. The union stated the action follows the government's failure to implement agreed-upon solutions for six key demands, including updates to Disturbance, Availability, and Transport (DAT) allowances, as well as issues surrounding transport and research grants.

Exemptions from the strike apply to maternity, pediatric, renal, and cancer hospitals, as well as military facilities and the National Institute of Mental Health in Angoda.
