Sri Lanka, Feb. 22 -- The 46th United Nations Human Rights Council session begins in Geneva.

The main annual session of the conference began at 1.40 pm today (Sri Lanka time) and over the next two days, delegates from 130 countries around the world will present their steps to protect human rights in their countries.

UN Secretary General, UN General Assembly President and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights are scheduled to address the inaugural session.

The host countries will present a resolution on Sri Lanka to the UN Human Rights Council this year, and will present a new resolution to promote reconciliation, accountability and the promotion of human rights in Sri Lanka.

The motion is due to be taken up for debate tomorrow.
