Sri Lanka, July 24 -- The Supreme Court has settled a Fundamental Rights petition after the government issued a new gazette notification.
The new notification allows women to purchase liquor from any licensed outlet, work in establishments producing liquor, and consume alcohol at retail premises.
The removal of these restrictions effectively reverses a previous gazette, establishing equal rights for women in Sri Lankan law regarding the sale, manufacture, and consumption of liquor.
The petitioners, a group of women activists and organisations, informed the Supreme Court that they would not proceed with their application due to the new gazette.
