Sri Lanka, Sept. 2 -- Thirty people have been hospitalised after inhaling a poisonous gas that leaked from the water purification plant located within the Delta Estate, which belongs to the National Water Supply and Drainage Board.
The victims were admitted to Gampola Teaching Hospital and Pussellawa Vahugapitiya Hospital.
The leak originated from a chlorine pipeline at the plant, releasing the gas into the environment.
29 estate workers were affected, with several of them collapsing on the ground before being taken to the hospital.
Around a thousand tea bushes near the water tank also withered due to exposure to the gas.
A water board employee and an estate inspector are among those who fell ill.
