Sri Lanka, Dec. 26 -- Officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption apprehended the OIC of the Gampaha Headquarters Police Crimes Division last afternoon (25).
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by a businessman from Dadugama, Ja-Ela, alleging the officer demanded Rs. 300,000 and a quarter-sovereign of gold.
The commission revealed that the OIC solicited the bribe in exchange for not taking legal action or producing the businessman in court.
The officer had accused the businessman of purchasing gold items stolen by another individual.
