Sri Lanka, May 8 -- A group of petitioners, including Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara, has filed a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition before the Supreme Court, seeking to invalidate recent Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed between Sri Lanka and India.

The petition, filed yesterday (08), names the Attorney General and the Cabinet of Ministers, including Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya as respondents.

The petitioners argue that the MoUs violate both the Constitution of Sri Lanka and international law, claiming they have not been disclosed to the public.

They assert that the agreements undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka, and were signed without prior parliamentary approval.
