Sri Lanka, July 2 -- A man who had been on death row for approximately 10 years and had evaded arrest was remanded until July 15.

Badulla High Court Judge Mahinda Liyanagama handed down the sentence to the individual, a resident of St. James Estate in Hali-Ela.

The man was accused of murdering a person in the Badulla area by assaulting them with a pole.

The trial proceeded in his absence after he fled the area, and he was subsequently sentenced to death by the Badulla High Court in 2015.

An open warrant was issued for his arrest when police were unable to locate him.

However, on June 28, approximately 10 years later, he was apprehended by police over the incident where he allegedly assaulted his wife.
