Srilanka, Dec. 15 -- The Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) states that an oil slick, caused by a leak from a fuel buoy located 3 1/2 nautical miles west of the Port of Colombo, has been brought under control with the assistance of the Navy and the Coast Guard Department.

The oil leak from the buoy began around 3:00 AM yesterday.

However, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard has indicated that, in collaboration with the Marine Environment Protection Authority, they have initiated investigations to determine if the leaked fuel has mixed with the ocean water.

The vessel involved is reported to be a Panamanian-registered ship that arrived in Sri Lanka from Singapore.
