Sri Lanka, Feb. 18 -- A fundamental rights petition has been filed before the Supreme Court seeking a ruling that the appointment of High Court Judge Ranga Dissanayake as the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption is invalid.

The petition was filed by a group including the Chief Incumbent of the Udawalawe Soma Viharaya, Venerable Wewelduwa Gnanaprabha Thero.

Respondents named in the petition include the Speaker, members of the Constitutional Council, the Secretary to the President, Commissioners of the Bribery Commission, the Secretary to the Judicial Service Commission, the Attorney General, and several others.
