Sri Lanka, Aug. 6 -- Former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa has been remanded until August 19 on charges of corruption and criminal misuse of public property.
The order was issued after he was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
He was arrested this morning by officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption at his home in Nugegoda.
The corruption charge is related to allegations that he used his official power to pressure a public official to secure compensation for a building that was allegedly illegally constructed.
The building was damaged during the violence on 9 May 2022
