Sri Lanka, April 15 -- The request made by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to meet Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, also known as Pillaiyan, who is currently being questioned under detention orders by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has been rejected.

This was confirmed by Minister of Public Security, Anandha Wijepala.

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe had requested the CID on April 9 to allow him to speak to Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, who is currently in custody, via telephone.

However, Minister Anandha Wijepala stated that the request was denied, and that allowing telephone conversations with a suspect in detention is illegal.
