Sri Lanka, May 30 -- Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced plans for the establishment of a new political party.

This was while addressing a programme held at the United National Party Headquarters in Sirikotha.

Wickremesinghe stated, "We are forming a new party. I'm not doing it personally; it will be handed over to a committee. We need to give them a timeframe to see if it's feasible. We will also need to introduce more new faces, as people expect a new party. We formed one in '56, again in '77, and then for the 2001 election. We need to follow that path."
