Sri Lanka, May 2 -- Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe's office has issued a statement over the abrupt transfer of his Chief Security Officer.

Chief Inspector of Police Ashoka Ariyawansa served as the Chief Personal Security Officer (PSO) of the Former President for the last 15 years, and served in his personal security unit for the past 23.

He was transferred to Kankesanthurai with immediate effect by the Police Headquarters.

Chief Inspector Ariyawansa was transferred with the approval of the Police Commission, according to sources within the police headquarters.

However, the Former President's office, which highlighted this as an abrupt transfer, issued a clarification on the matter.
