Sri Lanka, April 2 -- The Colombo High Court has sentenced former North Central Province Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith and his personal secretary, Shanthi Chandrasena, to 16 years of rigorous imprisonment each after they were found guilty of corruption charges filed by the Bribery Commission.
In addition to the prison sentence, both defendants were fined Rs. 200,000 each.
The case was filed against them for illegally obtaining Rs. 2,080,500 in fuel allowances during Ranjith's tenure as chief minister.
