Sri Lanka, Jan. 31 -- Former Puttalam District MP Amal Chinthaka Mayadunna has alleged that a stock of imported salt intended for the Puttalam Salt Company has been diverted to a private salt manufacturing company.
Speaking to Hiru News, he claimed that this has caused difficulties for the employees of the Puttalam Salt Company.
Due to the current salt shortage, the Cabinet recently approved the import of 30,000 metric tons of salt through the State Commercial Miscellaneous Corporation. A stock of 1,485 metric tons has already arrived in the country.
Mayadunna stated that a portion of this stock was scheduled to be delivered to the Puttalam Salt Company yesterday but was instead redirected to a private company.
