Sri Lanka, July 2 -- The Colombo Magistrate's Court has ordered the remand of former Commissioner General of Motor Vehicles Nishantha Anuruddha Weerasinghe and two others until July 8.

The suspects were arrested on suspicion of authorising the issuance of a number plate for a vehicle illegally registered at the Department of Motor Traffic without clearance from Sri Lanka Customs.

Also remanded are Priyantha Bandara Eriyagama, a retired Assistant Director of Information Technology at the department, and clerk Attaragama Gedara Dhammika Niroshan.

They were produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Anuja Lakmali Jayatunga by officials of the Bribery Commission.
