Sri Lanka, July 4 -- Former Minister S.M. Chandrasena was remanded today until July 18 by the Colombo Magistrate's Court, after being arrested by the Bribery Commission.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga issued the order after considering arguments from both the accused's lawyers and officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

Chandrasena's arrest came as he appeared before the CIABOC to provide a statement regarding an ongoing investigation.

The probe centres on an alleged incident where he illegally distributed maize seeds worth Rs. 25 million to his associates during the 2015 presidential election.
