Sri Lanka, July 8 -- The Colombo Magistrate's Court has granted bail to former Health Ministry Secretary Janaka Chandragupta, who was arrested by the Bribery Commission over allegations of embezzling over Rs. 3.5 million.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga ordered that the suspect be released on three surety bonds of Rs. 500,000 each.

The court also imposed a foreign travel ban on Chandragupta and instructed him to surrender his passport.

Bribery Commission officials informed the court that further investigations are underway, particularly into two bank accounts belonging to the suspect's wife, with statements yet to be recorded.
