Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- The former Chairman of the Wattegama Urban Council, Ravindra Bandara, and his associate, a businessman named Lakshitha Manoj, have been released on bail.

The two were arrested for allegedly possessing two luxury SUVs that were illegally imported and fraudulently registered.

The arrests were made by the Colombo Central Division Criminal Investigation Bureau in the Menikhinna area.

According to police investigations, the two men allegedly changed data in the Department of Motor Traffic with the help of a department employee to register the vehicles.

Ravindra Bandara, served as the Wattegama Urban Council mayor from 2018 to 2024, representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
