Sri Lanka, June 13 -- General Hamilton Wanasinghe, the 11th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, passed away today (13).

His family announced his demise, stating that funeral arrangements would be notified in due course.

General Wanasinghe served as the Army Commander from 1988 to 1991, a critical period in Sri Lanka's military history.

A decorated military officer, he held key national security roles after his command, including General Officer Commanding of the Joint Operations Command and Secretary to the Ministry of Defence.

He was recognised with several honours, including the Vishista Seva Vibhushanaya and Uttama Seva Padakkama.
