Sri Lanka, Dec. 19 -- The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has officially extended the flood warning for low-lying areas in the Mahaweli River basin for another 24 hours, effective from tonight (19).

The decision was made following an assessment of the continuing adverse weather conditions and heavy rainfall in the river's upper catchment areas, which have kept water levels consistently high.
