Sri Lanka, Jan. 22 -- The National Election Commission announced the registration of five new political groups as recognised political parties during the year 2025. This registration was carried out under Section 7(4)(a) of the Parliamentary Elections Act No. 1 of 1981.

The newly recognised entities include the Socialist Alliance, People's Participatory Democratic Front, Malaiyaga Political Arena, Samaththuva Kadchi, and Revolutionary Peoples Power. This addition increases the total number of recognised political parties in Sri Lanka.

These organisations now possess the legal standing to contest any future elections under their respective names and symbols.
