Sri Lanka, Feb. 24 -- A fisherman and two winch machines used for illegal beach seine fishing were taken into custody by Kalutara Fisheries Inspectorate officials.

The raid occurred yesterday (23) evening along the coast near the Maggona, Kudawa fishing harbor.

While current fishing laws strictly prohibit the use of winches for pulling beach seine nets, officials acted on a tip-off regarding such illegal activities in the Maggona area.

The suspect was caught in the act of using two machines to pull nets when officers arrived at the scene. The individual, a resident of Maggona, and the seized equipment are to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate's Court.
