Sri Lanka, June 5 -- Fish prices in local markets are currently experiencing a significant surge, with traders attributing the increase to the recent adverse weather conditions that have prevented fishermen from going out to sea.
Wholesale prices are reflecting this scarcity, with Goldstripe sardinella, known as "Salaya", fetching between Rs. 750 and 800 per kilogram, Mackerel, known as "Linna", at Rs. 1,200 per kilogram, and Skipjack tuna, known as "Balaya", ranging from Rs. 1,000 to 1,200 per kilogram.
Larger fish are also seeing substantial price hikes, with Yellowfin tuna, known as "Kelawalla", at Rs. 1,500, Sailfish, known as "Thalapath", at Rs. 2,000, and Seer fish, known as "Thora", reaching Rs. 3,000 per kilogram.
