Sri Lanka, June 13 -- The final rites for the late former Army Commander, General Hamilton Wanasinghe, will be held on Sunday, the 15th of June, with full military honours at the Borella General Cemetery.

This was confirmed by the Army Media Unit.

General Hamilton Wanasinghe, who served as the 11th Army Commander of Sri Lanka, passed away this morning (13), at the age of 91, while receiving treatment at the Army Hospital.

He commanded the Army between 1988 and 1991, and after retiring in 1995, he held several key positions, including the Chief of Joint Operations and Secretary to the Ministry of Defence.

General Hamilton Wanasinghe is also credited with introducing the Sniper Corps to the Sri Lanka Army
