Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- A recently opened women's rest area near the main bus stand in Badulla, the capital of Uva Province, has been shut down, allegedly due to a lack of support from the Badulla Municipal Council.
The facility was built by a volunteer organization to assist the thousands of women who visit the city daily.
The restroom, which was designed for use by lactating mothers, schoolgirls, and women who need to change clothes or rest, was opened on March 11, 2024, by the former Additional District Secretary and the Badulla Divisional Secretary.
However, residents say that the facility was closed the very next day.
They claim the municipal council is to blame for not assigning a female employee to manage the rest area.
