Sri Lanka, Dec. 21 -- A tragic incident in the Hindagoda area of Badulla has claimed the life of one individual after a soil embankment, supported by a wall, collapsed.

Two people were initially trapped beneath the debris and were rushed to the hospital after being pulled out by rescue teams.

However, the police have confirmed that one of the victims, who was in critical condition, has since passed away.

The rescue operation involved doctors from the Badulla Teaching Hospital, personnel from the Sri Lanka Army, officers from the Badulla Municipal Council Fire Unit, and local residents.

The Badulla District has been under a high-risk landslide warning for several days as the Northeast Monsoon continues to batter the region.
