Sri Lanka, Feb. 7 -- Faiszer Musthapha, President's Counsel and MP submitted two key Private Member's Bills to Parliament, Secretary General Kushani Rohanadeera, seeking to modernise Sri Lanka's personal laws, particularly to better protect the rights of women and children.

The proposed Dissolution of Marriages on the Ground of Irretrievable Breakdown Bill aims to amend the Marriage Registration Ordinance and Civil Procedure Code by recognising "irretrievable breakdown" - where reconciliation is no longer possible - as valid grounds for divorce.

It also sets out procedures for divorce by mutual consent and includes provisions covering property division, maintenance, and child custody.
