Sri Lanka, Aug. 21 -- An optometrist has cautioned that using dark mode on digital screens does not protect eyesight, despite its widespread popularity. Consultant Optometrist Jayamini Edirisinghe says it's a common misconception that this feature is beneficial for eye health.
According to Edirisinghe, the primary advantages of dark mode are saving battery life and extending the lifespan of devices, particularly those with OLED screens.
The expert explained that while light mode, which features dark text on a light background, is effective in bright settings, it can cause eye strain in low-light conditions. Conversely, dark mode can be more comfortable for the eyes in dim or dark environments.
