Sri Lanka, July 10 -- Today (10), marks the auspicious Esala Full Moon Poya Day, commemorating several pivotal events in Buddhist history.

It was on this sacred day that the Bodhisattva, after undertaking the five great considerations (Pas Maha Balum), was conceived in the womb of Queen Mahamaya.

Significantly, Prince Siddhartha's disillusionment with household life, leading to his renunciation, and the birth of Prince Rahula also occurred on an Esala Full Moon Poya Day.

Furthermore, it was on an Esala Poya Day that the Lord Buddha delivered his first discourse, the Dhamma Chakka Pavattana Suthra, to the five ascetics.
