Sri Lanka, July 12 -- Eric Meyer, a Senior Official of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs of the US State Department, has been nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as the next Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Sri Lanka.

The White House announced the nomination.

Upon confirmation by the Senate, Meyer will replace Julie Chung, who currently holds the position of US Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
