Sri Lanka, Oct. 15 -- The Convener of the Electric Vehicle Owners' Association, Deelaka Pitagampola, stated that the market is facing uncertainty due to the detention of over 1,000 BYD vehicles by Sri Lanka Customs, causing distress to consumers who have already invested in electric vehicles (EVs).
He made these remarks while addressing a press conference yesterday (14).
The Association is strongly urging the government to intervene and regularise the EV import process.
The Convener further stressed that consumer confidence has been eroded because Customs is refusing to accept Manufacturer Certificates and because there are no internationally recognised laboratory facilities available locally to verify motor power.
