Sri Lanka, May 25 -- The Election Commission has announced that the gazette notification for the appointment of members to approximately 161 local government institutions has been sent to the Government Printer for publication.

The Commission stated that the gazette notification for the remaining 178 local government bodies, which currently have unresolved issues, will be issued in the next phase.

The official term for local government institutions is scheduled to commence on June 2.
