Sri Lanka, May 31 -- The deadline for submitting the names of elected councillors for this year's local government election to the Election Commission expired at midnight yesterday (30).

Accordingly, the Election Commission is scheduled to publish the Gazette notification containing these names today (31). A Gazette notification issued by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government on the 17th of February stipulated that the term of local government bodies should commence on the 2nd of June, 2025.
