Sri Lanka, April 26 -- The Election Commission has issued a notification regarding the provision of leave to employees for the 2025 local government elections.
According to the notification, if an employee requests time off to cast their vote, the employer must grant them paid leave for a period deemed adequate, but no less than two hours.
Furthermore, the notification specifies leave entitlements based on the distance between the employee's workplace and the polling station:
If the distance is 40 kilometres or less, half a day's leave is granted.
If the distance is between 40 and 100 kilometres, one day's leave is granted.
If the distance is between 100 and 150 kilometres, one and a half days' leave is granted.
